Related, but maybe not spearheaded by the same person(s), I still seek a rear 29er in just about any (fixable) condition.  So if you have anything to donate, it will help someone - someone far more needy than us need - get on two wheels.

I am not soliciting for your backup, badass wheel.  This wheel will be going on a Wally World bike - should I say more?

Thank you for your consideration.

Subject: GCCMail: Bike donations needed!

Hi all,

I’m looking for bikes for the following two projects:

Project “Cycle of Youth”:

Kid’ bikes are needed specifically for  an event on March 17th.  Any bikes you donate will be rehabbed and given to children who live in the south west area of Gainesville known  for high crime and low incomes.  This event is put on by the group described below.  In addition to bikes, any bike parts and  helmets would be useful.

S.W.A.G. Cycle of Youth Project

SouthWest Advocacy Group (S.W.A.G) is a 501c3 non-profit organization made up of

youth and families within the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office “Mike Zone” designation.

This is a distressed area of neighborhoods that lack recreation and transportation options,

and a location where most of the officers are assigned. The proposed “Cycle of Youth”

project would address the lack of transportation and recreation by repairing/refurbishing

20 bikes, providing bike lights, bells, locks and safety vests.

Project “Bikes for Vets”:

A group of us are working with some of the local VA residences to provide bikes for the vets who can’t afford cars or have jobs that are not convenient to bus routes.  Any bike or bike parts will be welcome.

I’ll be glad to pickup any donations or you can drop off your donations at our house.  Please email me or call 352-378-7063 to arrange pickup or delivery.

Thanks for your help with these two worthwhile projects.
