Hello, GCC members:
On July
24-25 @ 8:00 p.m. at Acrosstown
Repertory Theatre I am directing Theater of War, a program designed to
bring Greek drama to veterans and other members of the military community.
This is a readers theater production, which has been touring (with national
actors) to veteran groups and military academies; I have engaged local
actors to do the show. After the show there will be a discussion with
members of the Veteran and medical community. I attach here a
description:
The words of the
ancient Greek tragedians speak to the modern soldier as they did to those
in
ancient Athens. Bryan Doerries developed the Philoctetes
Project to bring this idea to life. He
engaged actors to read these scripts to veteran groups, to soldiers at
military
bases, and to others involved with the training
of the troops and the medical professionals who care for them. The response has been positive and powerful.
The ancient drama
addresses a most contemporary problem: the psychic damage of war. The
performance is designed to offer soldiers fighting in both current and past
wars the opportunity to see in dramatic form the emotional toll the combat
has
taken on them and their families. You can check the website of the
Philoctetesproject.org.
