The forecast for Saturday looks pretty spotty, unless your name is Ahab.  But the weather forecasts has sort of differed from reality as of late.

Saturday-NORTH, December 12th: Meet at 9 am, depart at 9.15 am on the GWBL.

Sunday-SOUTH, December 13th: Meet at 9 am, depart at 9.15 am.

About the GWBL rides:

Some people have asked me about the pace of the GWBL rides, and if they're as "animated" as the A-rides can sometimes be.  Usually the question is phrased along the lines of "Will the GWBL ride be really tough?  Would I get dropped and stranded somewhere between Lake City and Pascagula?"

Well, the GWBL is much more structured than normal A-rides, and are suitable for any rider who considers theirself to be at least "glider" level.  The GWBL could be considered "winter base" training, but with a few modifications (there may be a short rotation, or there may be a sprint or two).  Indeed, Coach Pfaff has been keeping such strict reins on the GWBL rides that the past two weekends have seen average speeds of about 19mph for the entire duration of the ride (minus the sprints and rotations, of course).

And, riders who do not wish to participate in the sprints, or rotation, are encouraged to just sit in and relax; we will wait for you after a sprint or rotation and not leave you stranded in Mississippi.  I promise.

So, come out and try the GWBL ride this Saturday and see what it's all about!  Who knows, you might enjoy it!

About the

Helmets are required on all GCC Rides. Expect mileage to be in the 50-70+ range with one rest stop. Routes are determined prior to the ride depending on which way the wind is blowing and who shows up. Routes are agreed upon by consensus the morning of and may change en route. Speed is consistent 20 + mph during the ride. With surges exceeding 25 mph (and sometimes 30 mph). A- Riders do respect all road safety rules, but do not respect a specific speed limit, especially after the rest stop.  We will often regroup at major intersections before the rest stop, but not necessarily after the rest stop.

NORTHERN ROUTES: Meet:

At the Chevron station @ NW 43rd St and 53rd Ave (Hunters Crossing and Millhopper Road)

PARK: In along NW 43rd St. Start at the north end and work south. Do not park in the slots alongside the station or along NW 53rd Ave. DO NOT use the business lots east of the Chevron on Saturdays. Overflow parking is along the short east-west street south of the station. Please watch where you are standing; do not block the flow of traffic going to the pumps.

SOUTHERN ROUTES:

MEET: At the "Kangaroo (formerly Le Store)" on the NW corner of SW 34 th St and Williston Road.

PARK: At the end of SW 47th Ave just east of 34th Street across from the big Post Office. Please do not loiter in the parking area. Parking also may be available at the south end of the Publix parking lot. If you park in the Publix parking lot please park as close to 34th Street as possible. We want to keep the spots close to the stores open for shoppers, hopefully we can keep a low profile and not become a problem to the businesses in the plaza. Thanks for your help with this!
