The Saddle Tramps and LoBees will ride jointly on Sunday, August 7thfrom the Williston Road Publix to Micanopy. We will start riding south on SR121 (Williston Road), then turn onto Wacahoota Road and ride it southeast to 441, then ride 441 southeast to CR234, turn and ride it south to Seminary Ave into Micanopy for a snack and rest stop there or at the Pearl Country Store.  We will then take CR234 north to the Hawthorne Trail, which we will ride back to Boulware Springs for a restroom stop (if necessary), and from there, on the Trail, to Williston Road, which we will then ride southwest back to the Publix at 34th Street.

This is a moderately easy ~31 mile ride, on paved roads with a few hills.   Restrooms are available at the Micanopy rest stop.  Meet at 7:30AM at the Williston Road Publix for a departure at 7:45AM to enjoy cool morning riding.  High temperatures and humidity are currently forecast later in the day, so bring plenty of water (at least 2 bottles) and dress for hot weather.  It would be a good idea to bring a few dollars to buy a cold drink or ice cream at the stop in Micanopy to stretch your water supply while cooling your core.

Expect level-ground pedaling speeds between 13-17 mph, and an average speed of 13-15 mph on this route.  This is a no-drop friendly ride; nobody needs to stress themselves to keep up with the leader or faster riders, because we will stop and wait for everyone to regroup at each major turn.  Helmets are required, suntan lotion is recommended, as some parts of this ride are in sunny open areas.

The Williston Road Publix is located at the intersection of 34th Street and Williston Road.  If you drive to the ride, please park on the 34th Street side of the parking lot well away from the Publix entrance.  Restrooms and water are available at the Publix after 7:00AM, and a McDonalds is adjacent for people desperately hungry enough to eat there.

Route maps will be available at the start of the ride; if you want a preview map of the ride or a Garmin .tcx file, email Ed at the address below.

This ride will be lead by Ed Gardner in the continued absence of our fearless leader Melinda Koken, who hopes to return in time for this ride, before the hot, rainy, sweaty, revolting summer weather is all gone, so she can better appreciate her recent vacation in California.
