2006 was my first 6-Gap. What misery.  I'd have bailed if there was cab service.
Have available near the start:  a cycling cap for under your helmet (the brim helps keep water out of your glasses) high contrast spare lenses, two baggies for your cell phone, a lightweigh nylon vest for the descents, ibuprophen for wet diaper rash, and caffine Gu's to keep your spirits up.   Oh, also the biggest honkin' blinky you can find so people don't roll up on you blind from behind.  Don't linger at the food stops-you'll freeze on the next downhill.  Cram and jam.
Bring two towels 'cause your buddy will forget his and it's your car seat that will be wet.
Feather your brakes from time to time to make sure they still work.
Learn a reverse rain dance.
