I am posting the following announcement to Gainesville Cycling club members because I believe it will be of interest to some of you.
In 2005, cycling legend Lance Armstrong did the seemingly impossible in winning his seventh straight Tour de France. An amazing feat by any standard, Lance's accomplishments are made all the more remarkable by the fact that just ten years previous, Lance was given less than a 50 percent chance of overcoming testicular cancer that had spread to his lungs and brain. A sports icon and inspiration around the globe, Lance is an American hero in every sense of the word.
The American Cancer Society is selling a signed Lance Armstrong yellow USPS jersey from the 2000 Tour de France at its Cure By Design silent auction. This jersey is a great gift for any fan of perseverance and a strong will to win in cycling or any endeavor. Certificate of authenticity included.
The Cure By Design fashion show will be held March 5, 2006 at the Phillips Center for the Performing Arts on the University of Florida Campus at 5:00 PM. A reception and silent auction will follow the fashion show at 6:15 PM at the Museum of Natural History. Tickets are $100. and can be purchased from the American Cancer Society at 352-376-6866, ext 110.
In the spirit of competition this message is also being sent to a variety of other cycling related organizations in Gainesville. I hope this does not result in further objections from GCC members who recently voiced their concern over the posting of non-cycling related announcements on our club list-serv. As a cancer survivor and GCC member I feel it is important to increase public awareness of such events, and who knows, you might be the lucky bidder!
