For those interested, I think this is a discussion best left to the Commuter Group.  As I stated, I am not a big fan of petitions, for the reasons you both mention.  I don't know that it accomplishes anything, only that it wouldn't seem to hurt to sign.  It doesn't contradict our current position, which is that regulation four foot bike lanes are the desired outcome on 16th/23rd.  Since you sign the position as an individual, and not us as a club, there is a relatively low investment of political capital in these things (and for that reason they are sometimes ineffective).

As always, I encourage everyone interested to join the Commuter Group at the Members Area of the GCC web site--www.gccfla.org

Right, the petition asks us to be in favor of improving the bike and pedestrian lanes -- that could mean ANYTHING.  And nothing.

So,  What is the purpose of this petition?  I am in support of the biking of 16th Ave  (and 22nd St),  but does this do it?

There is a petition out there, already signed by some prominent folks, concerning the 16th/23rd corridor development and bike lanes.  I'm not a big fan of petitions, but someone has already gone through the trouble to make one, so let's sign on!

Find it at:
