PMWork is scheduled to begin in
January 2012 on a 12-mile section of SR 235 between County Road 241 and the
Bradford County line. Motorists can expect daytime lane closures Monday
through Friday after 8:30 a.m. with flaggers directing traffic. Work
includes removing the top layer of pavement and replacing it with new
asphalt on the travel lanes and roadway shoulder. Ten curves will also be
adjusted by placing additional asphalt in those areas. This work will be
done after the top layer is removed and before the final layer of new
asphalt is placed and may look like patchwork until the final layer is
placed. The end sections of drainage pipes will also be replaced and
guardrail will be installed at the Santa Fe River Bridge at the Bradford
County line. A temporary concrete barrier wall will be placed on the bridge
to provide a safe work area while the guardrail is installed. FDOT hired APAC-Southeast, Inc.
of Jacksonville to complete the work for $4.2 million. The work is expected
to take five months to complete, depending on weather conditions and other
unexpected circumstances. This section of SR 235 was last widened and
resurfaced in 1998. An average of 3,000 vehicles travel this road each
day.
