I’m putting in an unabashed advertising plug for BIKE ROUTE who were amazing to me in the aftermath of my accident. I had been shopping for a new TT bike for months before my accident. Finally I made the purchase of a fully loaded Scott TT bike with Zipp wheels. I was hit four days later. I never  even had a chance to put my pedals on  and ride it on the road.  Doug not only took the bike back – several months later when I was out of the hospital and able to deal with it, but he swapped me out a beach cruiser for it as a gift!! All this at a point where I could still hardly walk let alone consider getting on a bike no matter what the style. He told me it was his way of helping me stay motivated to make a comeback.

Doug was gracious and supportive beyond what almost any other local merchant would do.  He and his team have always been generous, responsive and helpful. BIKE ROUTE will always be top on my list of LBS to support over even with the acknowledgement that Performance or other internet sites can serve a purpose.

Subject: GCCMail: local bike shop or Performance Bike Shop?

I use both (and am completely happy with Gator Cycle, where I make a trip at least once or twice a month...)

but sometimes what I want needs to be ordered, or they don't deal with a certain vendor and I need it NOW.

I deal with two other bike stores online - peterwhitecycles.com for items more specific to long distance or night cycling (and the best wheels I've ever used) or

Performance Bike Shop - I bought a pair of Sidi shoes (Mega, in a large size two years ago) when I was having trouble resolving a problem with some custom shoes. As it turned out, I got the custom shoes a few weeks after the Sidi shoes arrived, and forgot to return them.

Three weeks ago, I called Performance and they took the shoes back, without the box and gave me full credit. If you need to deal online, I love these people. This is not the first time I've received outstanding customer service from them.
