I travel extensively with my bike tour business and have been using a Bike Pro case for years.  It is very easy to pack the bike into.  Has lots of space for additional items like helmets, shoes, dirty clothes, etc.  And it's wheel system rolls through airports much nicer than the hard sided plastic cases.

The downside is that it is a bit bulkier and heavier than the plastic cases (but still rides in the trunk of a tiny Asian taxi ;-).  And the mounting system in mine might not be suitable for a monocoque carbon fiber frame. (Mine attaches at the front drop outs and has a clamp over the seat stays just behind the seat tube, but I understand they offer a rear drop out option which would alleviate the problem of clamping on CF tubes.

Over the years I have had customers use everything under the sun, from soft nylon bags to corrugated plastic boxes to padded cases (like my Bike Pro) to hard sided molded plastic case (like Ironcase).  They all provide protection for the bike, as long as the bike is packed properly.  I have seen bikes damaged inside all of the cases and 95% of the time it was because the person packing the bike did it wrong.

If you buy some cases as loaner/rentals, I suggest getting together with a club member who has used the case and take some photos while he/she packs a bike.  Then use these to create an instruction sheet for users, as well as a simple photo sheet to tape inside for TSA to see how everything should be when they inspect the contents.

Tha's my ten bahts worth.

The GCC is contemplating the purchase of 2 cases for club members to rent.  I am sending this out to solicit comments on the proposed purchase. Is this something that club members would use? Do any club members have experience with any of the brands currently available? Any comments regarding this topic are welcome, not just those in response to the questions I posed.

Thank you in advance for your responses.
