August 26 (Sat)      Gliders Training Century 7 am

 

Meet at the Chevron on NW 43rd St at 53rd Ave for a 7:15 am departure for a ride over the Santa Fe Century course.  Stops in High Springs, Watermelon Park, and Worthington Springs.  This is a regular club ride – no SAG support.  Gliders pace (average speed around 19 mph, cruise often around 21 mph).  If you anticipate problems maintaining Gliders pace, print out a Santa Fe Century map from the web site.

 

We will take a detour to get around the bridge construction on CR 241 north of Providence.  We subtract mileage from the route by starting at the Chevron rather than the Boys Club (not cool to pee in the bushes), and add mileage by going to the store in Worthington Springs.  You may need to add a mile at the end if you drive to the start and are fanatical about getting an even 100 miles.

 

Because for many of us this is a significant step up in mileage, it is important that we hit all of the planned stops.  Getting behind on fueling early in the ride can make for a somewhat unpleasant ending.  There may be a power group that will elect to surge ahead and bypass a stop or two.
