I'd have to agree with Ed's thoughts. Having a couple of lists,
with easy visual titles GGCMail, GCCRides, could make sorting and
threading a bit easier.
Forums have their place, they are great for ongoing discussions and
good places to ask questions for feedback (like what road bike to
buy or what bike trail to ride in Georgia). I don't feel they are
a
good place for ride announcements or activities. Monitoring a
forum
is more involved, you need to log in each day / hour, look through
the new posts (which could involve multiple sub-forums), etc.Â
With
an email list-serve that info comes to you without extra steps every
time you check your email, by computer, phone, tablet.
I am accessing my club emails from overseas 90% of the time and
don't find the volume of messages to be an issue, and since I delete
everything that has no interest, I don't have too many problems with
indexing or sorting the remainder. Just my 60 satangs worth
;-)

Perhaps two separate mail lists one could
optionally subscribe to (and mail to) would be simpler; one
titled "Ride Postings" and the other titled "General Club
Mail". Most people have multiple ways to receive and
coordinate email on multiple devices now, it gets "pushed"
to them as it arrives, and it generallyÂ"just works",
because it has to.

Another mail list I subscribe to routinely
generates 150-200 pieces of mail daily; keeping up with GCC
is duck soup compared to that one. They tried setting up
a
forum in parallel to make it easier to keep thread lines
more intact and reduce mail volume, but virtually no one
used it; receiving info in email format on their computers,
tablets, smart phones, etc and routing it to a folder for
that particular mail list seemed to be what everyone on that
list was used to and preferred. My observation and 2
cents.

ÂHello
All,
There is a ton of email generated by club members and at
times it can be very hard to keep up with. Has anyone
considered setting up a forum? I once upon a time hosted a
very popular MTB forum and would be willing to help out if
needed.Â
