There will be the traditional GCC Thanksgiving Day ride on Thursday,
Nov. 25 starting from front doors of University of Florida Library
West(George Smathers Library). Riders should meet at 9:00 a.m.
for a 9:15 start.
The ride will follow the traditional route out to Newnans Lake with
return options of either Hawthorne Road or the Gainesville Hawthorne Rail
Trail, total distance 15 to 18 miles. Rider may take other optional
longer routes.
Everyone is welcome is come on this ride (of course, you must wear a
bike helmet). Don't worry about being slow, no one is slower than me
and we never leave anyone behind.
The ride will be chaperoned by the ride leader who will ride at the
back of the group to make sure no one gets lost. The ride leader is
also a bicycle mechanic who can help fix flat tires and help with any other
mechanical problems.
Directions to Ride Start: The ride start is at
the front doors of Library West (George Smathers Library). The
Library is on University Ave. in the 1500 block, however there is no car
parking accesable from Univ. Ave. For car parking, please park in the
parking lot next to Tigert Hall, at the SW 2nd Avenue entrance to the
campus. The front doors of the Library are on the south side of the
Library, facing the Plaza of the Americas. If you
