Club,

Every once in a while, it's nice to report on the success of a group ride.

Developers is designed to bring fit and inexperienced riders into the culture of the peloton through active mentoring.  We have been successful this year in teaching fifteen novice riders how to draft, ride in a group, and handle traffic.  Yesterday we had record turnout (in my absence and under awesome leadership) of sixteen riders.

In addition, we recently added advanced racing tactics to our ride for the faster mentor-level riders.  This has proven a success as well, with lessons in chasing, time trialing, and even (gasp!) a successful ten-rider rotation in the style of the Hipp Ride and A rides (at slightly slower speeds, of course).  We've integrated these two "classrooms" into a ride that stays together as a group at around 18mph for 85% of the ride.

Just wanted to say thanks to all the ride leaders and mentors who made all this possible.  The long-term goal was to make new riders more safe when entering the Gliders and Flyers ride, which we'll be doing shortly.  Look for us on your rides within the next few weeks.  You may not recognize the newbies by their riding style, as, frankly, many of them ride like pros. :)

I'll be sure and point them out so you can give a big roadie "howdy" to them.

Keep the Rubber Side Down,

James Thompson
Developers Ride Leader
