This is an on going issue we have on many of our GCC group rides, but it was brought to my attention again by a fellow cyclist who happened to be in a car that was coming up to 1 of our group rides.  The issue was the rider pulled out in front of her to drop to the back of the group(in addition to her, there were a long line of cars in front and behind her).  Some of us know the unfortunate circumstance of Tom Hayes in 1992 when he was hit from behind(while riding in a bike lane)and killed, and most of us know a similar circumstance of Vicki Santello(who rides closer to the shoulder of the road than most of us) who fortunately was able to get back on her bike after many years of painful physical therapy.  So here is the moral if this story, don't pull to the point where your legs just can't go anymore, and you have to pull off even in front of cars during rush hour, always look for cars before pulling off, and if there are cars coming, then let the group knows there are cars back, and you probably going to have to slow down a little.  RIDE SMART!!!!

ps. Beside "arrive-alive", we are already not making too many friends with motorist on the roads, so be respectful.  Thank you for reading.  See ya on the road and keep rubber side down....
