The Beginner Group will do a 22 mile ride from Micanopy on
Saturday, June 5. Along the route we will visit the famous dead
Governor, ride for two miles on the Gainesville Hawthorne Trail and view
the infamous River Styx.
This is a road ride and there will be cars on the road, however these
are quiet roads that have regular bicycle traffic.
The ride will be chaperoned by the ride leader who will ride at the
back of the group to make sure no one gets lost. The ride leader is
also a bicycle mechanic who can help fix flat tires and help with any other
mechanical problems.
The Beginner group should meet in downtown Micanopy at 8:30 a.m. for a
8:45 start.
DIRECTIONS TO DOWNTOWN MICANOPY: US 441
directions Take US 441 (13th Street) south to
Micanopy. Turn right at the flashing light and go 1/4 mile and
park in the downtown area.
I-75 directions Take I-75 south and exit at Exit 374
(CR 234 and Micanopy). Turn north (left) onto CR 234and proceed about
1/4 mile and turn right at Micanopy sign. Go about 1/4 mile and park
in downtown.
If you can RSVP to chanbike@xxxxxxx, I would appreciate it
so as to know how many people to expect.
Tentative plans for Sat. June 12: The
Beginner group will ride through the horsefarm country to watch the Ocala
Road Race (bicycle race in the rolling hills). We will meet at
Flemington and ride down to the race course. We will probably
spectate where we can watch the racers sweat, spit and curse as
they climb a steep hill. We may even be asked to help by
handing water bottles to thirsty racers.
