This Saturday the LoBees will start at the Hawthorne and of the Gainesville-Hawthorne Trail  with the Strays (see detail in the announcement below).  After the ride there will be lunch at PJ’s Café for those wishing to attend.  Should the LoBees prefer a different speed level we can do that also.

Subject: GCCMail: Strays ride from Hawthorne, Saturday, May 28

I will be leading a Strays ride out of Hawthorne on Saturday, May 28.

Meet at the Hawthorne Trail Head of the Gainesville-Hawthorne Trail at 8:45 a.m. for a 9:00 departure.

The route is approximately 32 miles on very rural and mostly lightly trafficked roads in eastern Alachua county along with the eastern end of the Gainesville-Hawthorne Trail. There will be rest stops at convenience stores at about the 10 and 21 mile points. This route has been on hiatus for a couple of years while the state has been building the SR 26 overpass over US 301. We may or may not ride the overpass.

We will convene at PJ's in Hawthorne after the ride for breakfast or lunch, whichever you are in the mood for.

The usual Strays group rules and protocols apply.

Email me if you need more info.

Directions to the Hawthorne Trail Head

From Gainesville, find your way to Hawthorne Road (SR 20) heading East out of town.

As you approach Hawthorne, take the ramp to the right instead of the bridge over 301 and follow the signs to the trailhead. Or...

Just before you get to 301, turn right on Johnson St. (the post office is on the corner). Take Johnson several blocks through downtown to SE 71st Ave, turn right. The trailhead is a couple of blocks down on the left.

Or from 301 heading south (a right turn off the SR 20 "ramp"), turn right on SE 69th Ave (CR 2082), cross the railroad tracks, turn left on Johnson St., then turn right on SE 71st. Ave. The trailhead is a couple of blocks down on the left.
