Vicki looks absolutely wonderful and is in great spirits. She
will
have surgery tomorrow morning on her left leg. She wanted everyone to
know
that she watched the doctors drill a metal rod through her knee to
stabilize her leg. It looks like she'll have us all
beat on the toughness scale for a while. If replacement parts
are needed, she is having trouble deciding b/t carbon fiber and
titanium. Apparently paralysis is one of the main concerns
when a vertebrae is crushed. The doctors tell her that she is
extremely lucky not to be paralyzed. She moves her legs
just fine and should recover and walk. I have never seen someone
so
positive about the future and about how good cycling has been to her, esp.
considering what she has and will go through.
In the months to come, Vicki will need all our help. Keep
positive thoughts and get ready to help Vicki with her rehab.
As of now Vicki and her family think it is best if visitors give her a
day
or two to recover from this next surgery. If you do stop by, it would
be
nice to bring a DVD or two for her to borrow.
