Gainesville, FL -- Old man winter had one last surprise in store for us this week. While it had been a very mild couple of weeks of weather, the last few days saw temperatures get down into the low thirties, and winds in the low twenties. So the forecast for the conditions we should expect on the first Gainesville TT Challenge of 2011 was anyone's guess. This morning we woke up to 33F temperatures. It was definitely a little cold to work pretty hard, but fifteen people decided to take the challenge anyway and were rewarded with the course warming up nicely by the time the start order was determined. Once everyone started lining up, the challenge was on. Riders went off in thirty second intervals, each pedal stroke bringing them deeper into the pain cave as they tried to put up the best possible time. By the time the dust had settled, all of the previous course records remained but new times and leaders for the 2011 series had been established. The results: Merckx 1. Rob Robins, 23:38 2. Michael Rosato, 24:20 3. Rick Bunning, 24:28 4. Ed Dunne, 24:36 5. Kris Smith, 27:41 Aero 1. Eric Stubbs, 20:33 2. Andrea Tosolini, 20:50 3. Bob Black, 21:29 * (fixed gear) 4.
