Gary & other GCC members who recently
contributed their options about Critical Mass,
Thank you for your contribution to this very
controversial topic. This is where you truly find out what people
feel
about certain topics. Something I discovered is there are a lot of
people
involved in GCC that feel Critical Mass is doing the right thing, and some
fell
very strongly against their efforts. My entire post was about
people's
perception and I feel I've made my point. Your perception differs
from
that of your neighbor.
I have never ridden in a CM
group. I've
had three experiences with the group and in my opinion they are rude,
obnoxious, and demeaning to motorists. During one of my experiences,
I was
turning left off Main Street. The group (about 100 of them) rode
their
bicycles blocking both lanes of Main St and passed me on my left.
They
actually went around me on both sides of my car preventing me from turning
left. They were yelling and screaming at me, and hitting my car with
their
hands as they rode by, telling me to get off the road. As a cyclist,
this
was very upsetting to me as my perception of that group was forever
tainted. If CM wants to advocate
cycling and encourage motorists to share the road, they have not relayed
that
message to me, a cyclist and a member of the driving public.
I hold no ill-will toward any of your posts
and
encourage the healthy contribution of topics and opinions and am thankful
to all
GCC members for their continued support of cycling, I just hope
whichever
way you choose to relay your message, it comes across with a positive
perception of cyclists. ;-)
Ride hard, ride long,
Mike
