About The Gliders The Gliders are a group that strives to maintain high training speeds over moderate distances and maintain the integrity of the group. The average speed of our rides generally will fall between 18.5 and 19.5 mph, which means our cruising speed will often be around 21 mph. You must be capable of holding these speeds for three to four hours in order to stay with the group. On most rides, we stop once at a store. For full information about the group, visit our web page. To participate, you must sign the safety pledge, wear a helmet, be able to change a flat tire, and have a capable road bike. You can agree to the safety pledge on our web site. If you are not a club member, you can print a membership form from our web site.
Saturday, July 15 MEET: At the Chevron station on the corner of NW 43rd St and 53rd Ave. PARK: In the Chevron station, along NW 43rd St. Start at the north end and work south. Do not park in the slots alongside the station or along NW 53rd Ave. DO NOT use the business lots east of the Chevron on Saturdays. Overflow parking is along the short east-west street south of the station. Please watch where you are standing; do not block the flow of traffic going to the pumps. TIME: Meet at 8 am, depart by 8:15. DETAILS: Ride to Hart Springs, 39 miles one way (78 miles round trip). There is a $2 entry fee at Hart Springs. I recommend that you have friend or family meet you at Hart Springs to avoid the round trip. We’ll join the picnic festivities by jumping in the spring when we arrive and raiding the hot dogs and hamburgers when they’re ready (please send an email to chanbike@xxxxxxx with your meat preference). Bring a swim suit if you intend to ride back so you won’t have to ride on a wet chamois! Send a side dish out with your friend/family. There are rides from Hart Springs suitable for any level of rider below Gliders (see other email postings).
There are no stores on this route.
