Dear Friends:

I thought you might like to read Ron's report, and take some pride in the fact that GCC people were able to help.

Thank you for that.

George

To my understanding, we are currently working with the 8th family and have taken preliminary paperwork for as many as 8 more. It is very time consuming trying to get homes that fit the standards of the program and the family size. These are individuals from every aspect of life and from various neighborhoods. Some have children, while others have lost family (literally and figuratively) from the storm. What we can still use are homes that are willing to participate in voucher type program, furniture, and cash. We have stopped taking the clothing and food donations as we had to concentrate on more specific items that we could best handle. The clothing and food items can be taken to the red cross or one of the many churches collecting in the area. We have had allot of individuals donate cash and I am happy to say that the cycling club was a big part of that group. We use this to buy things like gift cards and the "kitchen in a box" from Target. Everything you need to start a kitchen for about $26. The remainder of the cash we use to assist in deposits and utility turn ons. At least three individuals from separate families have job applications in and every kid has been enrolled in school. It has been both an overwhelming challenge and rewarding at the same time. I plan to ride this weekend to clear my head as I have worked for 12 days straight. Thanks again for letting me use the site. If things slow down a little, maybe I can do a story for the next newsletter. Ron

We were wondering how your evacuees from Katrina are making out, and
would like to get a report. Is there anything in particular they need?
