At some of the past picnics
that I had to opportunity to attend, a number of club members expressed
interest in cycling in Thailand and the possibility of organizing a
special GCC trip. I wanted to put it out to the club as a whole to
gauge how much interest there was in such a trip. Thailand is a surprise to most cyclists, as it has some of the most bike friendly drivers and roads you will encounter anywhere (even better than France). And those of you who have visited the local Thai restaurants in Hogtown know all too well how great the food is. A club trip could be from 7 to 13 days in length (13 days allows you to fly and tour with only two weeks off work). We have a number of established routes which could be followed, offering good riding, great boutique hotels and nice pavement. The best cycling weather here is winter (November through early March), so a 2010/2011 winter tour is most likely, though we could pull one off in late February / March this year if folks really wanted to. Two answer a couple of inevitable questions in advance ... why not Vietnam ? The roads and traffic in Vietnam are terrible, imagine a tour along 441 at rush hour ... why not France ? My company, Pedalers, specializes in Asia, but I have organized many tours in Europe as well, so that is a possibility for a summer trip if club members request it. I would greatly appreciate feedback from the membership at large. If you are interested in a Thailand trip let me know, how long, preferred month (as mentioned above), how many you are, etc. Suggestions of other destinations are also welcome. It would be preferred if you can respond off list to my direct email address: mrcycling@xxxxxxxxx.
