Team Gainesville is going to be joining the HighBees this Saturday! Hope everyone can make it!
Please reply to Michael Steinberg michaelsteinberg@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx with “Ride” or “Ride and Lunch” and he'll send you a gate code by e-mail.

Day: Saturday, August 27th

Time: 7:15 am meeting, 7:30 am departure (Note: Slightly earlier start time…beat the heat and have time for swim and lunch!) We typically return to Dylan’s Grove around 10:30 so if anyone has a spouse or significant other who doesn’t ride but would like to come out please let them know that they are welcome to join in on the post ride activities. They can bring the kids and their bikes and ride the 1.3 miles of paved trail (or use it for a jog before the swim) from The Lodge going around the community.

Meeting Place: The Lodge at Dylan’s Grove, 18909 SW 21st Place, Newberry, Florida 32669. Directions: West on Newberry Rd to SW 170th St, south to SW 15th Ave, right to SW 188 St. Enter through gate and drive to the rear of the community (1/2 mile) and turn right on SW 21st Place to driveway that goes to parking area for The Lodge. There are bathroom facilities at The Lodge for changing into swim suits or dry clothes following the ride.

Special Note About This Week’s Ride: The new Bee-17 riding group is going to join us this week; doing a shorter route at a 17 MPH pace; and meeting back at Dylan’s Grove around the same time as the HighBees return. Also, if there are any Gliders out there in listserv land who are not planning to do the Glider practice century this Saturday, you are welcome to join the HighBees on our ride and the post ride activities.

Access: Dylan’s Grove is a gated community, so if you would please reply to this e-mail with “Ride” or “Ride and Lunch” and I’ll send you a gate code by e-mail. Also, we’ll know that way about how many are attending and how to plan for the beer! E-mailing me is best.

Route and Mileage: Saturday’s ride I made up on MapMyRide.com so feel free to check this link to the map which is a 47 mile ride. See the ride map on MapMyRide.com by going to http://www.mapmyride.com/routes/view/47383688/. This ride will go to Alachua via Peggy Rd to Rachel Blvd and back to 241 then to Newberry and back to Dylan’s Grove. The rest stop will be in Alachua.

Pace: Typical HighBee pace is 18-19 MPH. Recently the average pace was about 19.2MPH.

Lunch: For those who wish to stay for lunch following the ride, please bring a sandwich or something else for lunch and we’ll be providing beer and soft drinks.

Weather:  If there is a problem with the weather, since we’ve been having a lot of rain, there will be a follow up e-mail on Friday night or very early on Saturday morning, so please check.  The prediction now is that Hurricane Irene is going to miss Florida entirely, but may still wreck some havoc or produce a good bit of rain for us.

Membership Requirements: Please note that HighBee rides are open to all GCC members who wish to participate. Those that are non-members may ride with the group as a guest of a sponsoring member once without being required to be a member. Team VetMed members are welcome.
