Hello all,
My original message is below. We are
changing
the meeting point. Instead of meeting at the Quality Inn, we will be
meeting at the parking lot to Westside
Park (the NE corner of NW 8 Ave & NW 34 St). No changes to
the map
or route, but I have updated the que sheet to reflect the mileage
difference (still 189.5 miles, just a 4 mile difference on all way
points). So far I believe we have three riders. I'll bring some
extra maps and cue sheets, but if you want a laminated sheet, please RSVP
me at
wohlhut@xxxxxxxxxxxxx. The
weather
looks promising, but we're still 5 days away. Hope to see lots of you
there.
ONLY CHANGE: MEETING AT WESTSIDE
PARK INSTEAD OF QUALITY INN (Thanks Jim Wilson for this tip
and
we're checking into Reynolds Bridge road conditions)
P.S. As Ben Tomblin (aka "Arrogant Bastard") stated,
"whom
ever rides the most miles on Saturday gets to be first in line for food at
the
Holiday Party. Hope to see you all at the Holiday Party!

Subject: 300 km ride - Sat Dec 10 Hello
all, I'm planning a 300 km (189.5 mile)
ride
scheduled for Saturday December 10th, 2005. The route will
follow the
official route for the GCC 300 km brevet that took place in February of
this
year. You can find the route here
http://www.afn.org/%7Ewilson/300k.zip. This ride is NOT a qualifying event. As a matter of fact, it is not an
event
at all. This is a training ride for me and I'm looking for some
company. The
route
departs from Gainesville, travels through Lacrosse, Worthington Springs,
Lake
Butler, the State of Georgia, Osceola National Forest, Lake City,
Providence,
Mikesville, High Springs, Newberry, Archer, and back to Gainesville.
The
trip totals 189.5 miles. I am going to go a bit slower than the
recent 200
km ride. Going to attempt average 16-17 mph if solo or 17-18 mph
with
a group. There will be six (6) scheduled stops of approximately 10-15
minutes each and one lunch stop of approximately 30
minutes. I plan to be at the Quality Inn, 3455 SW Williston
Rd,
just West of I-75 on Williston Rd, at 3:40 a.m. for a 4:00 a.m.
departure. This ride is unsagged and supported
only
by those who show. Properly
working headlights and taillights are required for this ride. Civil twilight begins at 6:48 a.m.
and
sunrise at 7:14 a.m. This
means 3
hours of riding with only 75% of the Moon's visible disk illuminated. Sunset is scheduled for 5:31 p.m.
and
civil twilight ends at 5:57 p.m. If
all goes as planned, we should be back before 6:00
p.m. You should make sure you have at
the
very least 2 water bottles, fuel (such as GU or energy bars), a
tire/tube
repair "kit" (spare tube, air, etc.), headlights, taillight, and reflective
gear
such as vest and ankle reflectors.
As always HELMETS ARE
REQUIRED. If you're planning on riding,
please
RSVP to wohlhut@xxxxxxxxxxxxx if you want a
laminated map
and cue sheet. Who: Any GCC rider that can sustain
a
pace of 16+ mph for 40 miles (non-stop). What: A 300 km (189.5 mile) ride.
When: Saturday, December
10th, 2005, 4:00 a.m. departure. Where: Quality Inn, 3455 SW Williston Rd Why: Training ride or because you want
to. Michael
