The Gainesville Cycling Club will have its best picnic of the year on
Memorial Day Monday, May 25 at Hart Springs. The
picnic will feature barbecue from Sonny's Barbecue. Club
members should bring a side dish or desert to round out the feast.
The Club will provide barbecue and soft drinks. Food will begin about
noon.
Chandler will send out an e-mail asking for RSVP's on Monday, May
18.
NEW BIKE LANES! There are now full bike
lanes from Hart Springs to the Nature Coast Trail. The entry road to
Hart has 4 foot wide bikes lanes, and the highway that connects to the
Nature Coast Trail has 5 foot wide bike lanes!
Ride groups should organize rides for Monday, Memorial Day. A
paved rail-trail, the Nature Coast Trail is near Hart Springs. The
roads in the area are mostly quiet and are definitely flat (no
hills!).
Hart Springs is on the Suwannee River about 40 miles west
of Gainesville. Take State Road 26 (Newberry Road) west
through Newberry, then to Trenton.
In Trenton you can either: (There will be road signs on both
these routes directing people to Hart Springs.)
A) Continue on SR 26, and turn north (right) on to County Road
341. Go on CR 341 and turn west (left) onto CR 344.
Continue on CR 344 to CR 232 and turn north (right) and then turn west
(left) onto CR 344 , which will take you to Hart Springs.
B) In Trenton, turn north (right) onto US 129. Take US 129 and
turn west (left) onto CR 344. Continue on CR 344 to CR 232 and turn north
(right) and then turn west (left) onto CR 344 , which will take
you to Hart Springs.
Entry fee at Hart Springs is $3 per person.
