All,
For those who have Facebook accounts, or who
may
consider joining Facebook, there is a GCC-related group that you are all
welcome
to join called Friends of the Gainesville
Cycling
Club (http://www.facebook.com/home.php?ref=home#/group.php?gid=52474947811) . I
don't find the current volume of GCC email to be problematic, but, if you
do,
at least some of the general discussion, health-related topics,
bicycling-related items for sale, etc., could be posted for free on our FB
group
page.
My understanding is that a major upgrade to
our
club's current website would be needed to include forums (which, I,
personally, would be in favor of, but that's just me), and
it would be
costly. Having said that, if you check out the Freewheelers club
website or North Florida/Jax club's website, you will see how
wonderful
forums, with discussions neatly categorized by topic, can be.
For the time being, and maybe just because it
might
be easy for all of us, and because many of us use FB
already anyway, please consider trying out the Friends of
GCC
Facebook group to communicate with your fellow club members. Feel
free to
post photos of club-related events, news items of interest to cyclists, and
your
cycling-related items for sale there. Maybe when enough GCC members
join
the FB group, we can use it to post rides, too.
Regards,
-Ally Gill

list
I think even better, would be a GCC Forum set up on the
website. That forum could contain categories for classified, equipment
wanted,
training and health, misc discussions, and ride info etc.
Any
member
could access the forum and through their options subscribe to whatever
threads
they desired. Email notifications as to thread updates are than
completely
under each persons control ... or optionally just checking the site for
info
and personal messages. I participate in forums, this way, in different
industries and it works perfectly. my $.02 Brian

Hello everyone!
My name is Dale Gunnoe, and Im a new
member to GCC. Although I haven't made it out on a group ride yet, I
feel
that I should share a few thoughts with you.
I recently moved
here
from NYC, but I am a Gainesville native. While living in NYC, I was
responsible for managing a list similar to what GCC offers for a social
group of about 700 members. I emailed weekly updates and info, etc.
I would highly recommend changing to a program that emails all
members once daily or weekly, rather than multiple emails from every
member.
I find that my inbox is cluttered and the emails have different formats
and
are hard to read.
An option would be to consolidate want
ads,
tips, and ride schedules, and this info could be emailed to one
member
weekly, who would be the master of ceremonies of email. For example, if
you
have something to post, send it to the elected member by a specific day
each
week to make the mailing for the following week. I know that for
certain
rides, the schedules change, but this would make it very simple. I used
a
program called constant contact, which I found very user friendly and
inexpensive.
Thanks for reading this email, and Im anxious to
get
out on the road with fellow bicycle enthusiasts!
