The Saddle Tramps
(Bees are welcome to join us) will ride Wednesday June 1st, from the
Tower
Square Publix. We will ride
south
on SW75th and 85th to Williston Road, then to Flemington park on CR320
and
329, stop briefly at the park for a rest, continue on NW100 to Dungarvin
Road
eastward, then north on 441 to Micanopy for a snack rest, then return via
Wacahoota Road to Williston Road, then continue north to SW 62nd
Street,
which will take us to Archer Road and back to the Publix.
This is a ~48 mile ride with mostly
smooth roads and a few moderate rolling hill climbs on Dungarvin
Road. Maps will be available at the start. Restrooms are
available at the Publix, at the rest/water stop in Flemington, and at
the
snack stop in Micanopy. Meet at 7:45AM for a
departure at
8:00AM so we get as much cool morning air as possible. High
temperatures are currently forecast in the low-90s later in the day, so
bring
plenty of water and dress for hot weather. It would be a
good
idea to bring a few dollars to purchase a cool drink at the rest stops
to
stretch your water supply, and purchase an energy snack or ice cream
in
Micanopy, if you don't usually carry one.
Expect level-ground pedaling speeds between
13-16
mph, and an average speed of 13-14 mph. This is a
no-drop friendly ride; Busy Bees who want to sprint
ahead
of the pack for training are welcome to do so, however
you should expect to rest a few minutes while we stop and
wait
for everyone to regroup at each major turn. Helmets
are required, suntan lotion is recommended, as later parts of
this
ride are in sunny open areas on 441.
The Tower Square Publix is located on the
west side of town at the intersection of SW 75th (Tower Road)
and Archer Road; Archer road has bike lanes from I-75
westward and RTS bus service on route 75 which stops at Tower Square.
If
you drive, please park on the southmost (Archer Rd) side of the parking
lot well away from the Publix store entrance.
If you would like to receive a preview a map of
the
ride, or a Garmin .tcx file of the route, please email Ed at the address
below.
This ride will be lead by Ed Gardner, due to
our
fearless but "direct" leader, Melinda Koken, taking a short
recovery breather after riding through the fields and farms of the
Confederacy in Virginia and North Carolina with a conquered army of Key
Westers
in tow. She should be present on this ride to describe her
journey if
she is able to rent a fork lift to unload her bike.
