Dear Friends: The EZ Riders will join the Hokey Pokies this Saturday 31 December on the Nature Coast Trail. Details below. The purpose of the Year End Ride is to begin the New Year doing what we hope to spend the year doing. It is a good, long-standing tradition. We are doing it this year on New Years Eve because New Years Day is a Sunday. See you all then, George -------- Original Message --------
The Hokey Pokies will ride the Nature Coast Trail on New
Year's
Eve, Saturday, Dec. 31. This ride is on a rail-trail, no cars
and
no hills!
Riders should meet at the Trailhead in Trenton at 9:00 a.m.
for
an 9:15 a.m. start time. We will ride to the bridge and back,
about 20 miles total. If riders want to go farther, we can
probably do that too.
The Nature Coast Trail is quiet and very safe. It passes by
scenic farms and an impressive prison. The trail crosses the
Suzanne River on the old railroad bridge, which has park benches,
so you can stop and sit and watch the sturgeon jump. If
riders
are interested, we can visit an old cemetery that has antebellum
graves.
Following the ride, we often gather at one of the local
restaurants.
Everyone is welcome to come on this ride (of course, you must
wear a bike helmet). Don't worry about being slow, no one is
slower than me and we never leave anyone behind.
The ride will be chaperoned by the ride leader who will ride
at the back of the group to make sure no one gets lost. The
ride leader is also a bicycle mechanic who can help fix flat
tires and help with any other mechanical problems.
Directions to Trenton Trailhead: Go west
on
State Road 26 (University Avenue, Newberry Road) and go through
Newberry and then to Trenton. In Tenton, turn right at the
traffic light (onto US 129), the Trailhead will be 1/4 mile
after the turn on the left. The Trailhead is the old train
station.
