Dear GCC members, as Carrie pointed out, thanks to the county
Commissioners Baird, Byerly,Long, Delaney, and Pinkerson, the
Multimodal Transportation Mitigation Program was voted in unaniously
. This program includes encouraging the use of bicycles and
non-private auto means of transportation. Hopefully it will also
decrease our urban sprawl. It's a great day for bicycling. We hope that our
GCC member Steve L. can inform us on the program at the next
commuters group meeting. The MTMP was ecouraged by GCC members
who attended meetings and workshops, spoke before the
commission several times, and also met individually with each
commissioner. We owe the commissioners some thanks and also some help
with the hard part of implementing the program- something we all could
support.
Also exciting news comes from the lobbying efforts of Carol Short
who visited the legislature to advocate for cycling. She is very
excited about the statewide efforts to encourage cycling and recommends
that we should be members of the Fl Bike Association. We will be
hearing more of her exciting news soon!
Safe cycling, Jim Funk Commuter Group
