Hello all,
I am collecting children's bikes that will be given to underprivleged
children during the Christmas Holidays. Children's bikes in any
condition are fine, as we have a work crew of of six state prison inmates
who can repair and repaint donated bikes.
For almost 20 years, this has been a GCC Christmas project. We
collect bikes from the community, prison inmates fix them and agencies such
as the Gainesville Police Department School resource officers and Hope for
the Holidays give them to deserving kids.
Right now we have enough adult size bikes, but we need CHILDREN SIZE
BIKES, ESPECIALLY BIKES WITH 20" WHEELS. Adult size Beach
cruiser bikes (one-speed with a foot brake) are also popular with the
kids.
I will be happy to come and pick up bikes anytime, or you can drop
them off at Bikes and More bike shop (2133 NW 6th Street,
373-6574). Please e-mail me if you need a bike picked up.
I take the bikes out to the Gainesville Work Camp, where I help fix
them, teach the inmates bike repair skills and am rewarded with a delicious
prison lunch (uhg).
ADDED INCENTIVE!----- i have been given a small grant this year ($150)
to buy bikes at yard sales or thrift stores. If you buy a bike at a
yard sales or thrift store, I can reimburse you up to $5 per bike ( I am
trying to get 30 bikes with the grant, at $5 per bike). If you buy a bike,
please make sure it is in reasonable running condition.
If you have any questions, please e-mail me at chanbike@xxxxxxx We
are happy to come and pick up any child size bike, beach cruiser or bike
parts.
If you
have questions, please E-mail me.
