Oleno State Park has several riding options: There is a paved
bike trail, a park entry road that is quiet and about two miles long
and gentle off-road trails.
Off-road (dirt) trails: Chandler will probably
be preoccupied with organizing food, but if I can, I will lead a "history
ride" on the off-road (dirt) trails in Oleno. Many of the
hiking/biking tails in the park have been historic roads, some of the
trails were part of the Spanish Mission trails, connecting Spanish outposts
more than 300 years ago. The first Federal Highway in Florida,
the Bellamy Road built in 1826, crosses the park and is still in the
original condition as it was built.
Any other riders who are familiar with the Oleno trails, please let me
know if you can lead the "history" ride so I can concentrate on
cooking.
Paved bike trail: There is a paved bike trail
that starts at the entrance of Oleno and goes to Fort White and on to
Itchetucknee and the Suwannee River. There is a great Thrift
Store in Fort White, right next to the trail. Since it is hard to get
lost on a bike path, this would be a fun ride for casual riders,
especially for family groups.
Quiet country roads: There are quiet coutry
roads outside the park.
Hiking Trails: Oleno has wonderful hiking
trails. You can hike them before or after the picnic. We usually have
a group hike after lunch at the picnic.
