Dear Friends:

This Saturday, 28 January, the EZ Riders will join the Hokey Pokies on the Palatka-Lake Butler Trail near Keystone Heights, as Chandler describes it below.  One word of warning to all:  The portion of the Trail from Grandin to the present terminus East of Florahome has not yet been officially opened to the public, so do not be surprised (nor disappointed) if law enforcement runs us off the Trail at some point.  Not likely, but you never know.

In any case, Craig Lee's photos look wonderful - a good trail through pretty country.  This trail is being engineered and built by FDOT, I am told, and those guys really understand highway construction.  The work so far looks like Interstate-grade paving.  Should last a while.

See you Saturday morning.

George

The Hokey Pokey group will travel to Keystone Heights to ride the newly paved portion of the Lake Butler/Palatka trail (see directions below).   Pokies should meet on Saturday, Jan. 28 at 9:00,  with 9:15 start time for a 20 mile ride.  This is a paved rail-trail, no cars, just bicycles and hikers.

Following the ride,  riders may want to go to Johnny's Barbecue.

Everyone is welcome to come on this ride (of course, you must wear a bike helmet).  Don't worry about being slow, no one is slower than me and we never leave anyone behind.

The ride will be chaperoned by the ride leader who will ride at the back of the group to make sure no one gets lost.  The ride leader is also a bicycle mechanic who can help fix flat tires and help with any other mechanical problems.

Directions to ride start:    The Twin Lakes Park Trailhead can be found by going East from Gainesville on SR 26 to Melrose, Left at the light in Melrose on SR 21, Right onto SR 100 at the light in Keystone Heights, and then Left on Twin Lakes Road a couple of miles South of Keystone, and finally Right on South Twin Lakes Road for about a mile.  Twin Lakes Park is the County soccer field, and is on your Right.

Why Hokey Pokey rides?
Cause that's what it's all about!

If you have questions, please e-mail me.
