Dear Friends:

The EZ Riders will take up with the Hokey Pokies on Labor Day, Monday 5 September, leaving the Southern parking lot at Boulware Springs (next to the old white pump house and the site of the picnic, at 8:30 AM, and doing a short easy jaunt at least to the Alachua Lake Overlook to see if we can see the bison and horses.  Some can go farther if desired, but Lee and George are going to get back to Boulware Springs to help Chandler set up for the picnic.

Bring sunscreen, bug juice, whatever you want.  This will be a slow, easy ride on a paved trail, suitable for families and children.  There is a lot of history along this stretch, and we can pause and talk about it, if you want to.

Cheers,

George

The Hokey Pokey group will ride to Alachua and then visit Newnansville, the site of the old county seat and an historic cemetery on Saturday, Sept. 3.  Riders should meet at the Hague meeting point at 8:15 for a 8:30 ride start.

The 16 mile ride will be on roads with cars, including two miles on US 441 and through downtown Alachua.

Monday (Labor Day) is the GCC picnic.  Don't forget to RSVP to the GCC website, so we know how many people are coming and how much food too purchase.  Please bring a side dish such aas a desert or saled so we have some healthy food.  Please RSVP to me (chanbike@xxxxxxx) if you have a meal preference for hamburgers, hot dogs, Bocca Burgers, salmon burgers or bratwursts.

Monday's Hokey Pokey ride will be on the Gainesville Hawthorne Rail Trail.  I'll be busy preparing the picnic, so I won't be able to ride, but I"ll be there to pump up your tires and give your bike a safety check.   Since it is almost impossible to get lost on the rail-trail,  novice riders should come and explore the trail.  If Hokey Pokey regulars want to organize a Monday ride, we can discuss that idea on Saturday, and send out an annoucement on Sunday morning.

SATURDAY RIDE--Directions to Hague meting point:   Take US 441 (NW 13th Street) north.  Go through the traffic light at  State Road 121 and at NW 43rd Street and continue north.  The Hague meeting point is two miles north of NW 43rd Street, where SR 25-A veers to the right.  Park in the area with the picnic shelter neat the convenience store.

MONDAY PICNIC--The picnic will be at Boulware Springs, the head of the Gainesville Hawthorne Rail Trail.  E-mail me if you need directions.

Why Hokey Pokey rides?
Cause that's what it's all about!

If you have questions, please e-mail me.
