Hello,

This mail is to let everyone know about a local fundraising ride for local students in Alachua & Marion Co. high schools and middle schools. I have worked with the same team of Marion and Alachua county school officials for 3 years now doing this ride.  The 2006 version of Cycle for Success is a one day affair with 100, 50, and 25 mile routes.

The ride is on Sat 18 March departing from the MLK Center in Ocala @800am.  The route will go north and west from Ocala, essentially riding much of the HFH route in reverse.  It will be a good course for going very fast.  There is a lunch at Boulware Springs for the century ride.  The shorter rides follow the century route with staggered turn around points but using the century route's roads to return to the MLK Center.

As I said this is a fund raiser for local kids.  A FL DOE entity, Take Stock in Children, sponsors Cyle for Success.  These kids in the TSIC program are those who clearly have above average academic talent, they stay out of trouble...in fact, they are often involved students at their schools...but do not have the financial ability to afford college.  These students have community members who act as mentors.  The mentor guides the student through the life and times of being in middle & high school student.  When it all works, the student qualifies for a college scholarship at a FL university.  It is a solution to overcoming child poverty, academic failure, and youth crime.  Example: Buchholz HS has graduated several TSIC students currently in colleges across the state and 17 students are at BHS aiming towards college.

Since it is a fund raiser, here is the breakdown for raising donations:
25 mile ride = $50
50 mile ride = $75
100 mile ride = $150.

NOTE: the state doubles every donated dollar...raise $150...it really is $300 into the scholarship fund.

Entry fees are $40.

There is LOTS of police protection on the route & at major intersections.  Great rest stops with a good selection of food and fluid.  Breakfast & lunch at the MLK Center are provided.  SAG is provided by the Santos Bike Shop, Ocala.  In fact, Santos has Ride Guides, loaded with spare tubes and tools, who will be pedaling with us, along with motorized help for those who need a lift.

Feel free to contact me if you have more questions or want a ride brochure.  I have several at my house and can bring them to the next Glider ride.

In fact, if you know me as a Glider/A- rider, contact me, we can enter as a team and get a discount on our entry fee.

Finally, if you have daughers/sons/nephews, etc. who wish to ride...excellent, that is why I was asked to add shorter routes and the est stops occur @ every 15 miles.  Inquire about the proper entry papers for young riders.

Thanks to all of you who read this far.
