Speed 2.5 - 46 mph, depending on terrain.
Average speed has typically been 12 -
14 mph in recent times. This ride is entirely flat except for
the little hills and slopes on the GHT near Boulware, and in the
hammock.
There will be a convenience store /
rest room stop in Hawthorne at the midpoint in the ride. We may
also divert to Tim's Fast Nickel for a convenience store / rest room break
if any rider has the desire to do so.
Post ride the hungry will head to a restaurant for lunch,
most
likely Satchel's or Louis Lunch.
No pace lines, no racing, no wheel sucking, just a fun social
ride.
Helmets
are REQUIRED on all Strays rides, mirrors
recommended, headphones forbidden.
Safety protocols are
always observed on Strays rides

To get to the Boulware Springs dirt lot:
From the intersection of Waldo Road (24/331) and
University
Ave (26), proceed East on University for about a quarter mile, the road
forks, take the right fork, which is Hawthorne Rd. (20), in about another
block take a right (going south) on SE 15th st., continue south for about
2.25 miles until you see the brown Gainesville
Hawthorne Trail sign on your right. Pass the first entrance to the park,
but enter the second entrance a few hundred feet further south.
Park either in the dirt lot or the paved lot down
near the spring house. We gather for the ride at the picnic tables next to the dirt lot. Its possible
that the Boulware Spring house rest rooms may be open, since they are
supposed to be, but don't bet on it. If you have an urgent
need there is a rest room on the right side of the trail a mile out from
the Gainesville trail head, but better yet go to a convenience store
on the way to the park if you have some question about being able to wait
until our first rest
stop.
