Hi, Some of you may have seen the recently released report that tied ibuprofen use to an increase risk of having cardiac problems. For what it is worth...consider this: On the afternoon of Thur 18 June 2009, I was put on antibiotics to deal with a sinus infection I had had for the last week or so. I had already taken Ibuprofen that day to make it through work. Due to the sinus infection and pressure headaches preventing sleep...I had taken a lot of ibuprofen over those previous days. And this use was not a one time thing. Ibuprofen has been my weapon of choice for years for any major pain...from cycling or otherwise. Because sinus issues plague me a lot in the spring and summer...I take a lot of ibuprofen during those months. It seems to lesson the swelling as well as the pain. My attack was on 20 June...it was a ridiculously hot humid day, genetics produced plaque that blood cholesterol tests and other blood test numbers failed to provide a reason to be concerned, the bacterial sinus infection is implicated, spiking some serious blood pressure climbing Underwood Hill probably had something to do with being the action that broke off the piece of plaque...now it seems at least somewhat likely that chronic & immediate use of ibuprofen was also a contributing factor. I just mentioned this situation to my cardiac doc during my 12 month follow up...he shook his head and said, "I'm not surprised." We talked about using Tylenol or Aleve depending on that I'm trying to treat...simple pain or pain with tissue swelling...whether sinus or muscular injury. Ain't life strange? Yea, so, I seem to be doing o.k. with Aleve...even cut them in half and that dose still seems to work for sinus headache issues...like the one I have now. C U on the road after I see my allergy doctor Monday and I get well from this one. Replies?? Please do it to me directly, not on to the GCC listserve. Bob |
