Hello All,
This Saturday, July 17, the Gainesville Cycling Club (GCC) will
have a picnic at Fanning Springs State Park. Please RSVP on the
GCC website (www.gccfla.org) so we will know how much
food to prepare.
Fanning Springs State Park is next to the Nature Coasst Trail, a paved
rail trail that has 37 miles of pavement. The trail is very safe
and it would be hard to get lost on the trail. The highlight of the
trail is the old railroad bridge, which has been made into a
bike/pedestrian bridge. There are park benches in the middle of the
bridge, so you can pause and watch the sturgeon jump in the Suwannee
River.
Depending on how food preparation goes, Chandler may be able to lead a
short ride to the bridge. But beginner riders should have confidence
that the trail is safe and it is almost impossible to get lost on the
trail. This is the perfect place to bring family, children and
friends to introduce them to bike riding.
Field Trip--Sat. July 31-- The Beginner Group will
invade Citrus County to ride the Withlcoochee Trail. We will meet in
Inverness (60 miles south of Gville, on US 41) to ride this paved rail
trail. The northern half of the trail has some interesting
civilization, including a gormet coffee shop, an Irish pub and a bike shop
that specializes in recumbent bicycles. Everyone, both beginner and
veteran riders are invited. Those interested in this adventure should
discuss this trip during lunch at Fanning ssprings. More details will be
posted during the next two weeks.
