Hello,

While someone will likely debate this...please do not do it on the listserve unless it is really to the general audience...

Compared to places I have ridden from CA to Missouri to NC and Georgia and many places in FL...the RTR5 route put together, assumedly by Roger Pierce, was one of the most scenic, varied routes I have rolled along.

Rolling fields creating open vistas, forests, residences varying from broken down trailers in the middle of dirt to beautiful little cabins to country homes to oversized and ridiculous mansions, race horses pacing us along fence lines, mares and foals, cows and calves...who also spooked and took off at full gallop, rolling hills...LOTS of'em, then there are those straight shot roads broken up by twisting curving roads rolling up and down those hills. Little churches, small towns, then places in the middle of nowhere.

My point is...I tried to look at that route through the eyes of an "outsider." The realization: we have some of the best roads and scenery of anywhere in the United States...sure, there are not breath taking mountain views...instead we have an incredibly varied patchwork unique to our area of N. Central Fl...that we locals likely take for granted.

Finally, compared to the HFH...I thought that route was MORE challenging...more hills and more varied surfaces.  There were times when I felt like I was on the Horrible Hundred.  If I am wrong, I guess it is because I'm just getting older.

Anyway, it was a great ride...rain or not.  Nice job to Roger and to any others involved in the planning of that route. If it is possible, keep it in place.
