Hi, all
FYI: from 241 on Alachua, if you take the right hand turn
onto Peggy Road, then left on 235A with a bike lane, RT on to
235...jeez...look out for the long grooves in that road, not mention the
high speed traffic...then a LT onto NW 94th, up and over Chestnut Hill and
back to 24...
That adds ~5 miles for a total of ~43.5 miles compared
to the normal route ~38.5 miles from the Chevron back to the
Chevron.
It was not a lot of fun being alone on 235...it is only
~5-7 minutes of riding...but you have to be heads up in front watching for
crumbling, grooved asphalt and also behind looking for that single speeding
car...any momentary lapse could ruin your day...combat
riding.
Jonathon wisely had to miss a ridiculously humid ride...but
next time, if people are up for it...we could follow Peggy Road/2054 to its
west end, zig-zag further west, then zig-zag-zig south to where it runs
into NW 94th then make the left on to 94th & come in heading
east, up and over Chestnut Hill and back to 241 and skip riding on 235
completely....the hitch is that it looks like this loop would add in the
range of 8-10 more miles of riding to the existing loop...mapmyride.com
could help clarify that before we ever ride it. Regardless, that route may
be better in Sept after the weather cools off some.
And, I'm
certainly open to other options to add a few miles to the existing
loop...but let's avoid 235. Probably see you next
week....
spin the hills...Bob Howland
