Beth: I think you have it exactly right - we cyclists display repeated reckless disregard of traffic safety regulations. We have been lucky that fatalities are so rare, given the typical cyclist behavior you list. If you have any ideas about how to increase enforcement of cycling regulations, please voice them to the authorities. I was not in town for the workshop, either. But in my experience these things usually give the authorities the chance to explain that they would do more if only they had a bigger budget, which is doubtless correct but not helpful. The last I heard, the fine for running a stop sign in Alachua County was $187.50. If anyone has suffered the unhappy experience of learning differently lately, we would all benefit from hearing about it. In any case, Carmen's tragic death is going to focus attention on the GHT for as long as they can afford to keep officers on duty there and not the other places they are needed. Thanks, George Beth Knizer wrote: Now if the other law enforcement agencies in Alachua County like GPD, ASO and UPD were as vigiliant as it appears they'll be on GHT in downtown Gainesville would that be an amazing feat. I see so many cyclists running stop signs, riding the wrong way on a one-way street, using headphones while riding (which is illegal in the state of Florida) among other things. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe from GCCMail, please go to http://gccfla.org/.
