![]() On Saturday August 25, Strays will ride about 32 -
34 miles, from Hawthorne to Boulware Springs and back to
Hawthorne, on the Gainesville Hawthorne Trail..
Arrive at the Hawthorne parking lot at the end of the GHT at 8:15
am
for an 8:30 ride start.
Speed 2.5 - 46 mph, depending on terrain. Average
speed has typically been 13 - 14 mph in
recent
times. This ride is quite flat.
There will be a convenience store / rest room stop at the
midpoint in
the ride at Boulware Springs, and another stop is possible at Tim's
Fast Nickel, if needed.
Post ride the hungry will head to a restaurant for lunch, most
likely
PJs in Hawthorne.
No pacelines, no racing, no wheel sucking, just a fun social
ride.
Helmets are REQUIRED on all
Strays
rides, mirrors recommended, headphones
forbidden.
Safety protocols are always observed
on
Strays rides
NEW RIDERS must
read the following before joining
us:
Most particularly Strays get pretty POed with passing cyclists who do
not
give a verbal warning.
Unsafe, inconsiderate riders are not allowed on Strays rides.

![]() To get to the Hawthorne end of the GHT:
Take 20 east out of Gainesville to Hawthorne (about 17 miles). Take a
right
on the last road just before you reach 301 (The overpass goes over 301),
this
will be the main street of downtown Hawthorne. Follow this street a
few
blocks until your reach the street just past the traffic
light
and turn right. Go a few blocks east and you will see a clinic on your
left. Go
left in front of the clinic and the GHT parking lot will be a few hundred
feet
in front of you.
If you follow some brown signs and you end up arriving at a large
paved lot with a wooden fence dividing it from the trail, you are at
the equestrian parking lot. The lot we start the bike ride from
is a
mile further east. Don't laugh, we've had people make this mistake before.
The
vehicle parking spots at the end of the trail are gravel, not
pavement.
