The inaugural "eastside
roulers" ride was very successful thanks to Jesse, Tomas, and Carl who
showed up and joined me in a 50 miler on the "Memory Ride" route.
The roulers had a varied pace, not so fast (14-15 mph) into a headwind
while simultaneously going up the hill just north of McIntosh, and cruising
the flats mostly @ 18-21. All shared long pulls, Carl rolls on rough
pavement Tom Boonen-like (I think he's part Belgian) and drafting Jesse is
almost cheating, like being behind a fast SUV. We saw Jorge Rojas on the
rail-trail which made for three Cubans for a while, possibly exceeding some
GCC maximum caribbean island limit.
I'll be doing the "Tour de Forts" next
weekend, but hope to post future rides on a semi-regular basis for those
who'd like a change from the usual westside routes, sometimes on Saturday
and sometimes Sunday. Both Hi-bee and Hi-bee plus ride leaders have
expressed interest in an occasional ride this way so I'll work on some
routes of 40-50 miles. Thanks.
