I am very excited to announce the inception of the Youth
Mountain Bike League. Below is a document we created to give
information about the league. Our first ride will be this Sunday at
4:30 at San Felasco. I will send a separate email tomorrow with more
information about the ride.

Youth Mountain Bike League
Purpose
The goal of the GCC Youth Mountain Bike League is to create a
positive environment in which local youth can learn, enjoy, and develop as
trail riders. For those that are interested we will also teach kids how to
race and prepare for races. We will be providing support and encouragement
for the members of the Youth Mountain Bike League at most of the mountain
bike races held in Florida. Safety, healthy practices, sportsmanship, and
fun will be emphasized.
Requirements
Because this is an off-road ride, youth under the age of 14
must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian on the ride. Riders age
7 to 18 are welcome. We do ask that riders have a at least year of
experience riding a bicycle and can ride 5 miles in a single ride.
Different groups will be created for varying ages and riding abilities.
Riders or parents are expected to bring everything necessary
to fix a flat or make minor adjustments. Typically, a mechanic will be on
the ride, but bikes are expected to be in working order.
By club policy, Florida law requires that all riders under 16
wear helmets, even when warming up off the trail, testing an adjustment, or
cooling down after a ride. This is of course good practice for riders of
any age.
Where to Join
Membership in Gainesville Cycling Club is required
($20/family each year) and includes certain insurance, entertainment, and
discount benefits. Go to gccfla.org to join. GCC is over one thousand strong and is North
Central Florida’s largest cycling entity.
When and Where Events Will Take Place
Most rides will take place on Sunday afternoons. Rides will
be at San Felasco, The Rock Trail or other local areas. All information regarding rides and events will take place
through the Gainesville Cycling Club email list unless another
means of communication is determined.
