Last Week's Rider Count was
19.
The ride leader may not be passed during the
slower (15mph) three mile warm-up.
To
accommodate the large size of this ride, we will allow the
"Shenani-Gators" to play the Leopard to our Gazelle (Doug's
hare and hound style) from the Archer turn at mile 10 to Newberry at mile
20. The Gazelles will get a four minute lead and will maintain their
shenanigan-free no-drop pace until either a) we are caught or b) we arrive
in Newberry. The Leopard's may safely pass us and continue the
craziness until Newberry.
Whichever group arrives in Newberry will wait for the
other (no exceptions please). We will then ride in on the safer
western portion of Newberry Road _together_. At mile 25 (170st, a.k.a
S241) the Shenani-Gators may once again leave the group for the last few
miles. Riders who did not participate in the Leopard pack earlier may
not leave the group at the finish. This is for your own safety.
If you elect to be a Shenani-Gator/Leopard, no one will
wait up for you, even if you flat. Some of our Riders are
"As", so you will likely be dropped, as they can chase at 26-27
mph over the 10 mile free fire zone.
Keep in mind the steady-freddy portion of this ride is
meant for the most part for us to be together and enjoy each other's
company. Shooting off the front or chasing those that do, outside of
the "free fire" zone, is considered extremely uncool, whether a
ride leader is present or not. The disciplined description of
training rides is not meant to limit you, but to encourage more people to
ride and to be safe and predictable. When we do unpredictable things,
people get dropped who shouldn't, and we wreck. That's not
what this ride is about.
