Offroad riders, I will be leading an offroad mtn bike ride at Oleno State Park prior to the Chilly Chili Cookoff. If you are interested in biking, plan on meeting in the main parking area at 10am. This will give us approximately 2 hours before the food is served to get a ride in and return to the picnic area. I believe there are approximately 13 miles of trails most of which are open to bikers. Please note that I have not biked at this location previously so if anyone who plans on riding is familiar with these trails, feel free to show us the way! Otherwise I will find a trail map... This ride is family-friendly and will be ridden at an easy pace, no one will be dropped. Non-biking related: I will be trail running after the picnic, if anyone is interested in joining me, bring some running gear! Hope to see you on Saturday! -Cathy GCC Offroad Ride Leader --Forwarded Message Attachment-- From: chanbike@xxxxxxx Date: Fri, 15 Jan 2010 10:12:36 -0500 Subject: Picnic---Jan. 30---Chili Cookoff To: GCCMail@xxxxxxxxxx Gainesville Cycling Club's famous Chilly Chili Cookoff will be
Saturday, Jan. 30 at Oleno State Park. Food will be served stating a
noon. Oleno has bicycle adventure for the whole family, including a
paved bicycle trail, gentle woods trails and beautiful country roads
nearby.
Ride leaders may want to plan rides for the Oleno Area. The
woods bike trails in Oleno are very gentle and go by historic and
geological sites. One thought for off-road riders that want more
challenging trails would be to ride at San Felasco and then drive up to
Oleno, about 20 minutes north.
This picnic features GCC's best chili's, and club members are invited
to bring their favorite chili. GCC will provide a big kettle of
mild, inoffensive chili and this year will attempt a vegetarian
chili. Club members are asked to bring either chili or salads,
cornbread or deserts to round out the feast.
See more details about picnic in club newsletter. I will send
out two more e-mail reminders
Oleno State Park is on US 441 eight miles north of High Springs.
There is an entry fee to the Park, $5 per car with up to eight people, $4
for single occupant car, $2 for bike or pedestrian.
