Yesterday, approximately 30 people (mountain bikers, hikers, and joggers) explored the proposed Millhopper Greenway. The proposed greenway is on a county right-of-way, between Millhopper Road (at 88th St) and 39th Ave (at 83rd St). The gate at the end of 88th is typically closed, but the county granted us permission to expore it yesterday.

The right-of-way is beautiful, and with minimal improvements (perhaps a few signs and gates for cyclists/pedestrians), the greenway could be opened as a linear park with recreation and transportation options for non-motorized use.

To express your opinion about the proposed greenway, please consider writing a letter to the Gainesville Sun (http://www.gainesville.com/section/opinion) or sending an e-mail message to county commissioners at:  bocc@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Thanks to everyone who participated, and a special thanks to Diann Dimitri for suggesting this adventure; to Martina Spiess for bringing a group of joggers; and to Rob Wilt for taking photographs.

Lee (and Tony) Ross

P.S. For those who were unable to attend yesterday's outing and would like to explore the greenway, please let us know, and we can arrange with the county for access at a future date.
