Strays today received official permission from park
authorities for our night rides to continue on the Gainesville
Hawthorne Trail thru this coming winter.
Beginning Nov 6 our evening Tuesday rides will depart from the Angle
Road
(234) parking lot adjacent to the Gainesville Hawthorne Trail. Next Tuesday
Oct
30 will be our last ride this year with an evening start from Boulware
Springs.
All rides after next Tuesday will require full legal
lighting for night road riding, because we have to travel thru
Hawthorne to get to the convenience store at the middle of the ride.
Full legal lighting means a front light of 5 watts or equivalent
minimum. I
recommend at least 10 watts minimum or equivalent to actually be able to
see and
avoid debris/animals on the trail. A red rear reflector,
and a decent red blinky or red rear light. Pedal
reflectors,
spoke reflectors, reflective tires, light colored/reflective clothing,
and
any additional reflective materials are also a good idea.
All other regular Strays safety protocols for day riding also must be
observed.
