The Hokey Pokey will visit the State Road Race course on Saturday,
Sept. 17. Riders should meet at Flemington Park (see directins below)
at 8:15 for an 8:30 start time. The ride will be about 25 miles.
The Road Race course is in North Marion County, the horsefarm
country. Along with the fun of watching racers pass by, we will be in
some of Florida's most beautiful scenery.
This ride will be a bit unusual because we will be stopping every 10
to 15 minutes to watch the racers pass by. We will ride down to
the race course and then ride the course backwards of the race.
Whenever we see the pace car that leads the race leaders
and/or peleton (racing group) we will pull off the road and wait for
the peleton to pass.
For those who are concerned about safety, please note we will be
riding on the opposite side of the road from the racers, and as soon as we
see the race approaching, we will pull off the road.
Everyone is welcome is come on this ride (of course, you must wear a
bike helmet). Don't worry about being slow, no one is slower than me
and we never leave anyone behind.
The ride will be chaperoned by the ride leader who will ride at the
back of the group to make sure no one gets lost. The ride leader
is also a bicycle mechanic who can help fix flat tires and help with any
other mechanical problems.
