Hi all,
This weekâs ride is designed and led by Charlie
Courtney and gives us a little more of the Horse Farm 100 route. He
promises a little flatter ride this week.
See his ride info below. Any and all welcome, but not pace. We
will try to keep the group together for the majority of the ride.
This
weekâs ride info:
Day:
Sunday, September 25th
Time:
7:45 am meeting, 8:00 am departure
Meeting Place:
Veterinary Academic Building (VAB) at 2015
SW 16th Ave, Gainesville, FL
Route and Mileage:
I'm looking at doing a relatively flat 68 mile
ride,
departing at 8:00 a.m. on Sunday. I feel that we did plenty of hills last
time,
so this time we can work on distance without worrying about burning up
everyone
on the hills, although we will encounter a few at one point in the
ride.
My
plan is to ride south on Williston Road for about 15 miles, then bypass
Williston to the east, following Highway 335 to its intersection with US
27.
After riding south for a couple of miles on US 27, we will turn south on
160th
Avenue and ride for about 4 miles to Highway 326, then east on 326 to our
first
rest stop at US 27 in Blichton, 30 miles into the ride. The course should
be
relatively flat up to this point. After our rest stop, we will continue
east on
326 for about 2 miles to 115th Avenue, then north on 115th to 110th St.,
then a
short distance east on 110th St. to 110th Avenue where we turn north. We
will
SLOWLY follow a hilly 110th Avenue north for 4 miles, finishing that road
at
Highway 316 after going up and over "Heart Attack Hill" in the
reverse direction. Ouch! We then ride east on 316 to 100th Avenue, then
north
on 100th to Highway 329, which we will follow to the ice cream shop in
Micanopy
for our second rest stop at 50 miles into the ride. From Micanopy, we will
return home via Angle Road and the Hawthorne Trail for a total distance of
68
miles.
Pace:
We will look to average 15-16 mph for the ride. Cruising speed on the
flat will be 16-17 mph depending on the group. This is a friendly, no drop
training ride. We will regroup as needed at turns.
Rest stops: As noted
above, rest stops will be at miles 30
and 50.
Helmets required. Bring plenty of water and
power
bars, gels, etc that you fancy. Given the length of ride, sunscreen
is
highly recommended as well.
Cheers,
Alex Gallagher
